Two new Desolation of Smaug TV spots!

As fangirlish.com reports, Peter Jackson and co. have released TV spots No. 4 and 5 in anticipation of the second Hobbit movie, set to hit theaters on December 13th. Let’s take a look!

This one features a lot of familiar imagery, with emphasis on themes brought out in Unexpected Journey and several shots shown in previous trailers. One thing that stands out is the bright-colored, overly active effects, which are certain to dazzle those who love the new-age 48 frames-per-second glow, yet frustrate traditionalists who are still clinging to the Lord of the Rings films.

Here’s No. 5:

Here, the emphasis is more on Bilbo and his journey, but there are several moments that ought to excite Hobbit fans considerably. For one thing, it never gets old catching glimpses of the barrels — one of the novel’s most iconic scenes — and the Bilbo-Gandalf dynamic definitely connects well with the successful Gandalf-Frodo tropes in LOTR. My favorite shot? Pause the video at 12 seconds, as the boat travels by water through a quaint, sleepy, almost Scandinavian fishing-looking village. What attention to detail! Often, it’s the set and world creation where Jackson does his best work, and it looks like fans will get plenty of that to chew on.

Less than two months to Desolation of Smaug! Who’s excited?

The Best Acapella of Hobbit You’ll Ever See

This has been out for a few months already, but we felt compelled to post this because it’s truly extraordinary. One man, channeling all the dwarves, singing the Misty Mountains hymn through multiple tracks and pitch-perfect harmony. Introducing, Peter Hollens!

Really, what else is there to say? We’re thrilled his painstaking recordings and sonorous voice have earned a couple of million views — totals of which he is well deserving. Pass it on to others!

Fly Air New Zealand, you fools!

If you haven’t seen this airline safety video from Air New Zealand, invoking all kinds of clever Lord of the Rings and Hobbit references, you are in for a treat!

Really, this video has it all, and it’s littered with specific references for LOTR lovers and fans. And most amazingly, it knocks down the two towers of modern air travel:

1. Pick price over airline: This video is so clever, I would actually pay more to fly Air New Zealand.

2. Airline safety videos are boring as sin and always inspire immediate utilization of headphones and loud music: I would absolutely pay attention to this!

The evidence is mounting. LOTR fans need to make that pilgrimage across the oceans to visit the film sites in New Zealand. “It’s a dangerous business going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG Not Going to Have Anything for San Diego Comic-Con in Latest Video Blog

hobbit-production-blog-11It’s a sad, sad day for those who were hoping to see some footage or the cast and director at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, but unfortunately, not everything is premiered there, much to the delight of those not able to attend.

Right off the bat in this latest The Hobbit production video blog, Peter Jackson made the announcement that he, nor anyone else, will be able to go to Comic-Con this year and present any exclusive footage for attendees.  This is unfortunate indeed, but it seems that Peter does have good reason to not be able to show anything, as they are still hard at work in New Zealand working on pick-ups, and he just won’t have the time to edit an exclusive video, fly all the way out to San Diego, stay for a day, and fly all the way back to New Zealand.   Because of all the work needed to get done in time for the release of the 2nd movie, I can see why it is with a heavy heart that he can’t give us this.

With that said, hopefully, he’ll be able to give us something for 2014’s Comic-Con.

Now, watch the video below to whet your appetite, which shows you the return of certain well-known actors for their last time on the set, talk of the Battle of the Five Armies, Dwarvicise (you have to watch), Radagast poo, and Orlando Bloom on fake-horse-riding (you really have to watch).

Desolation of Smaug trailer is out!

What do you think??

We get a lot of Lee Pace (Thranduil). We get some Evangeline Lilly (Tauriel). As usual, there are plenty of mangled, evil creatures and eye-popping landscapes. And — if the title didn’t give it away — a dragon, who happens to be named Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch).

But the inclusion that excited me the most was seeing our old friend Legolas talking politics with Tauriel. Apparently, he hasn’t yet discovered his love for dwarves. Only Gimli can make that happen.

Everything Wrong With The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

If you’re going to nitpick…

Lord of the Beans!

For those of you who enjoy parodies, this VeggieTales’ take on Lord of the Rings just might be what you need. Take a look at this absolutely ridiculous trailer, featuring the tale of Toto Baggypants, Randalf, Ear-a-Corn, Leg-O-Lamb, and…wait for it…Scaryman’s Sporks!

We’re definitely tempted to get this, especially since it’s available for a cheap price!

Has anyone seen this before?

Honest trailer for THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Now that The Hobbit is out in theaters, here’s a little something to reminisce on the movies that started it all!

Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings has been called a lot of great things over the years. But behind all those accolades, it’s easy to forget that it can be a little pretentious at times—and a little melodramatic at others. Luckily, the guys at Honest Trailers are here to break it all down.
