Peter Jackson Announces Hobbit Fan Event

Save the date!  Peter Jackson announced on his Facebook page that on November 4th (5th for New Zealanders) a pretty exciting fan event will take place in London, New York, Los Angeles, and Wellington–complete with live appearances from the cast!  Complete details can be found below.

hobbit fan event

Hi everyone! Less than two months ’til we open “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” on December 13, and we’re in the midst of an intense post-production.

However, we have got a pretty cool fan event planned for Monday, November 4, and I would like to invite you to join me and many members of the cast in a special live presentation. We’ll be appearing before live audiences in cities around the world, including London, New York, Los Angeles and, of course, here in Wellington – which, for Kiwi fans, is going to be Tuesday, November 5.

This is how it’s going to work: the 4 host cinemas will all have members of the “Desolation of Smaug” cast on stage, and we’ll all be satellite-linked to allow everyone to participate in a simultaneous Q&A … as well as present a few special surprises. Additional cinemas will be set up in select locations worldwide where fans can gather and watch the events unfold live.

If you can’t be there in person the event will also be streamed live on the internet.

But for those that do show up in the cinemas… let’s just say that I’m going to have a special “thank you” from me for making that extra effort.

Be sure to check the official Facebook and Twitter pages for details on locations, timing, and how to sign up for a chance to join us.

We’re working around the clock at the moment, so I’m not going to get a lot of sleep between then and now, but I am looking forward to this. Hope to see you there!

Orlando Bloom Wraps Filming The Hobbit

Like Ian McKellen and Evangeline Lilly, Orlando Bloom has now finished shooting his parts for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Peter Jackson announced yesterday on Facebook:

A day after saying goodbye to Gandalf and Tauriel, it was time to farewell Legolas. What a great day it was, with Orlando battling a serious Orc for all 12 hours of shooting – part of the Battle of the 5 Armies for the third Hobbit movie.

Lucky for us, he also posted this AWESOME video

When we finally got the day done, we said goodbye to Orlando, had a couple of beers … and couldn’t resist doing this!

That is Orlando’s take on They Are Taking The Hobbits to Isengard, which you may remember from a few years back.  If not, here it is!

First Look at Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel

Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive first look at Evangeline Lilly as the elf warrior Tauriel!

HBT2-fs-140204.DNG

As previously reported, Lilly will be portraying the character who is being introduced in the second installment of the Hobbit trilogy.

From EW:

When The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters on Dec. 13, there will be a fresh face among the residents of Middle-earth: Tauriel, an elf warrior played by Evangeline Lilly ofLost fame. “She’s slightly reckless and totally ruthless and doesn’t hesitate to kill,” says Lilly. She’s also not found anywhere in J.R.R. Tolkien’s original fantasy novel, or in any of Tolkien’s other writings for that matter.

Director Peter Jackson and his co-writers on the Hobbit trilogy, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, invented the character to expand the world of the elves of Mirkwood Forest — and to bring some more female energy to the otherwise male-dominated Hobbit narrative. “Tauriel is the head of the Elven Guard,” Lilly explains. “She’s a Sylvan Elf, which means she’s of a much lower order than the elves we all became acquainted with in TheLord of the Rings. She doesn’t hold the same kind of status that Arwen or Galadriel or Elrond or Legolas do — she’s much more lowly. She sort of goes against the social order of the elves a little bit.”

Tauriel isn’t only a fierce warrior; she has a softer side, too. “She will definitely have a love story,” Lilly says. “I can’t give away too much about it. It’s not a huge focus but it is there and it is important and it does drive Tauriel and her story and her actions.” Will that romance involve Orlando Bloom’s Legolas, by any chance? Lilly won’t say definitively one way or the other, but she does offer this much: “Tauriel’s relationship with Legolas is significant. They’ve known each other since they were children, and Legolas’ dad, [Elven king] Thranduil, has a soft spot for Tauriel and sees something very special in her. So if you grow up side by side, and your dad has a very special spot in his heart for this young woman who’s a fantastic warrior, I think it’s hard not to notice her.” She laughs. “That’s probably as much as I can say.”

Even though you’re not familiar with her character from the book (because she’s not in it), what do you think of the still? Let us know!
